Skater of the Month: Shank

Shank has been chosen as this month’s skater of the month for both her work on and off the track. Shank has been with RMRG for a number of years (since she was 21 years old). She is a key member of the Red Riding Hoods home team and also Contenders travel team. She has a deep knowledge of strategy and track awareness, which makes her a force to be reckoned with. Her strong blocking skills help to frustrate opposing jammers, and her fast and fearless skating help her be an excellent pivot.

Off the track, Shank is constantly working to help the growth of our league through her work on the New Recruitment and Development committee. Using her knowledge and charm she answers questions of incoming skaters when they first contact the league. She also quickly provides information for those who will greet transfer skaters at their first practices, making the process run smoothly. She shows her passion for our league in everything she does. We don’t know what we would do without her.

Shank is a wonderful representation of what it means to be a Rocky Mountain Rollergirl!

Skater of the Month: Zoom

Rocky Mountain Rollergirls would like to introduce our current Skater of the Month and our February Valentine: Zoom Bayou!

A skater of a number of years, Zoom was snapped up during drafts by her home team the United States Pummeling Service. 2018 marks Zoom’s second year as captain of USPS, where she can consistently be seen displaying her skills as a calm and competent leader and strategist, and can routinely be found “delivering the mail,” to the opposing team. She is often described by her teammates as “the quintessential Pummeler,” with her low-key yet passionate demeanor and subtle good humor. Blocking, jamming, or pivoting, Zoom can do it all with the power and precision she is known league wide for.

An alumni of University of Colorado Denver, Zoom balances her skating, captaincy and committee works with her challenging career as a vision therapist here in Denver. She is happily married to her husband Brian, who can not only be seen cheering on his wife at bouts, but also sports a sweet tattoo of her in skates on his arm.

Zoom’s name has become synonymous with the quiet force she is on and off the track. She has played at every level RMRG has to offer with flying colors, and is currently tearing it up at the World Cup in Manchester England as part of Team Korea.

Also showcasing her considerable skills for organization and tactics, Zoom was warmly welcomed as the Head of Training this year for Rocky Mountain. She has already begun to make her mark by implementing new training programs and goals for the league. We are excited to see what this year will bring with Zoom at the helm!
