This month the Rocky Mountain Rollergirls would like to recognize Major Lil Payne (know affectionately as LP) as August’s Skater of the Month! LP came back to us after taking short skating hiatus to focus on her career. Upon her return, she jumped right back in to the Training Committee, offering to head up an additional basic skills practice which has been a great supplement to our schedule. Her desire to help others is unparalleled. Whether it be at a league practice, Travel Team, or scrimmage, it is her voice you can hear encouraging everyone to push through even while the going gets rough! Not to mention her fierce competitiveness and drive to win – LP brings it! LP, we are so glad to have your smiling face and killer skills back on the track with us!

Skater of the Month: Nicki Brixx

This month, Rocky Mountain Rollergirls would like to honor our dear friend and teammate, Nicole “Nikki Brixx” Capra who lost her battle to cancer on June 13, 2016. Brixx was an inspiration to us all both on and off the roller derby track and she will truly be missed.

Brixx’s tenacity and ability to push through any challenge made her a force to be reckoned with! She skated with our travel team, the Contenders, and home team, United States Pummeling Service and was definitely a teammate you always wanted to play with because she could knock you to the floor and you wouldn’t forget it! Brixx was also the head of our bout production committee and was instrumental in making sure all of our bouts went off without a hitch!

She loved her family more than anything and it was apparent anytime she talked about them or you saw them all together. She taught so many of us the importance of what it means to put others first and give selflessly to the people around you. She always had a smile on her face no matter if she was doing grunt work or just goofing around.

Brixx loved life and cared so deeply for her family and friends. She was a kind spirit, generous, beautiful, hardworking, strong, determined, loyal, caring and all around fantastic person who would do anything for anyone. Words cannot express what she meant to so many of us and it is so hard to know she is gone, but we know she will always be in our hearts and will never be forgotten.

We love and miss you Brixx!!
